Blue Tarp Shelters

The Kauri Foundation was founded with the mission to go beyond what was currently in the market. We saw the blue tarp, tent and the “sheds” that were on the market and knew we could - we SHOULD - do better. Who wants to live in 17.5 sq/m?! A structure that was no larger than a shed that you keep your lawn mower and trimmer stored in. People aren’t hamsters.

This being said, we do recognize there is a place for the blue tarp. An industry leader with 30+ years of field experience said, “The blue trap tarp has a place.” For example, when the sun/rain is beating down on you/your family, this is an emergency that a blue tarp can cover.

The fundamental goal that is important to us, is to see displaced and battered people given the opportunity to move into a stable and dignified housing product. A place to dream again. A Huffington Post article on the power of hope, puts it well. “Hope affects human lives by alleviating the pain of uncertainty.” It needed a solution that put context into food relief, innovative ideas, and clean water projects - a housing system that goes far beyond a blue tarp shelter.

Today, we have this solution. We are currently in the process of building our first model, and in discussions with world leaders to bring this solution to post-disaster areas around the world. Join us in establishing our vision of every family having access to safe, secure, dignified housing!

Blue tarps have their place, but we can do better.
