The Heart Behind Kauri Foundation - Part 2

After reflecting on the generations-old roots of Kauri Foundation, Ed Brost realized that no matter how tumultuous his childhood was at times, he recognized that he always had food on the table and family to share it with. With the desire for every family to be able to raise their children in a safe, and dignified environment, Ed founded Kauri Foundation.

While honing in on Kauri Foundation's mission, Ed identified the most prevalent housing need: the refugee crisis. With families still living in tents over a decade after the Syrian war, Ed knew that Kauri Foundation could provide a better solution. He noticed that "1.6 billion people are wandering the plan without safe, secure, or dignified housing. That's really how it started in a lot of ways."

During his research on the Syrian crisis, Ed noticed that many incredible organizations are working tirelessly to provide temporary shelter. However, he also noticed that nobody was providing a long-term solution that met the apparent needs of the refugees. A real long-term solution needed to be more than just a tiny building with a bed; it needed to be a fire-retardant, mold-resistant, hurricane-force wind-resistant, and scalable home that met the whole community's needs.

When asked where Ed saw Kauri Foundation headed in the future, he explained that the desire is to spearhead a shift in thinking from "crisis to sustainability." In the years ahead, he doesn't just want Kauri Foundation to build houses; he wants to develop living environments; thriving communities. With leadership like this, the future looks bright for Kauri Foundation and those in need of shelter.
