On October 13th, the world celebrates International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. The United Nations (2022) describes it as “an opportunity to acknowledge the progress being made toward preventing and reducing disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods, economies, and basic infrastructure”. The Kauri Foundation had disasters in mind when designing our homes. 

Built to be bacteria and mold resistant with the ability to withstand hurricane-force winds and intense fire conditions, our homes are literally made for disaster risk reduction! Besides the physical, another factor that reduces disaster risk is the resilience and sustainability of a community. Part of the Kauri Foundation’s mission is to engage the local community in the building and construction process, which creates local jobs and bolsters the local economy. While we can’t stop disasters from happening, we can ensure that communities are equipped with the best infrastructure and tools for when they do!
