Building With Bamboo

Asian and Central American cultures have used bamboo for thousands of years as a core building material. It is common in wet climates like the Philippines and Polynesia because bamboo holds up well in moisture and can be particularly resistant to hurricanes (Greener Ideal, 2017). According to Chan (2022), bamboo is incredibly beneficial to our atmosphere because of the rate that it takes out the CO2 and turns it into sugar and then fiber. Simply by planting bamboo as a building material, our planet benefits greatly!

With so many apparent benefits, it is clear that primitive civilizations knew a thing or two. Understanding the benefits of bamboo for hurricane resistance and how dramatically it can benefit our environment, Kauri Foundation just couldn't resist. We are excited to announce that we will roll out our first wave of sustainable bamboo housing structures in the next few months! The walls of the homes will be made of sustainably harvested bamboo using a green manufacturing process. These bamboo walls are stronger, more soundproof, and lower the risk of air leakage and mold than traditional wall framing. These structures will be the first of many that benefit the inhabitants as much as the planet!

Be on the lookout for these new homes and how you can be a part of this next phase for Kauri Foundation!
